Year 8 York tour

Last weekend, 13 pupils from year 8 travelled to York for our annual football tour. We left on Friday (6th March) and arrived at the Manor Academy at 6pm.

Shortly after arriving, the boys organised a friendly 6 a side football game amongst themselves. After burning off all their energy following the journey, they were treated to a McDonalds for tea, after Leo Williams made the prize winning shot from the length of the football pitch.

After waking up early on Saturday morning the boys had breakfast and prepared for their football match against the Manor.

The game kicked off and THOA found themselves 1-nil behind after 5 minutes. We continued to battle and were soon rewarded when Matty O’Hagan found himself through on goal; he was quickly closed down by the keeper and remained calm before slotting the ball home from 18 yards.

Tenbury found it very difficult competing against a very large and physical York team who went on to score another 3 goals before half time. The second half proved to be just as tough and we had very few chances to get back into the game. York scored a further 4 goals making the final score 8-1.

After the game, the boys got ready for bowling and a game of Quaser. Mr Morris came out on top for the reds as 'top gun' but couldn't do enough as the greens won the overall game; Theo Houchin being their 'Top Gun'.

Following the fun in the arcade, the team went into York centre for a spot of shopping; most of them left York with a brand new football. With the sun shining the boys experienced some cultural heritage with a look at the York Minster and a walk around the wall.

The pupils spent the rest of the evening relaxing, eating tea, playing football and watching a film in the school’s auditorium.
On Sunday, on our way home, we stopped off at the National Railway Museum where the team could stand next to some of the worlds most famous trains including Stephenson’s Rocket. One pupil couldn’t wait to see the rocket.

The whole group had a great time and we'll look forward to the return trip in the next few months.
