Cricket- Tenbury vs Weobley.

Cricket match report

On Thursday 26th June Tenbury High School played against rivals Weobley High School. In Tenbury’s team they had 3 year 8’s who were: Jamie Farrar, Will Ward (wicketkeeper) and Ethan Fish. Ten Year 9’s, including Alfie Watts (captain),  Rory Noble, Tom Ferguson, Brandon Hadley, Tom Bowen, Kit Garbutt, Jake Lambert, Luke Staples, Connor Lewis, Adam Robinson and Peter Down. To finish the squad we had two year 10’s-  Joel Stones and Nick Webb.

After Tenbury’s victory over Weobley earlier in the season they were looking like favourites. Tenbury were wanting to field first, but lost the toss. Luckily the Weobley captain decided they wanted a bat so Tenbury were left to field.  Nick Webb had Tenbury’s first over and went for only two runs. Next to bowl was Alfie Watts from the pond end, during the over he went for 11 runs but took the wicket of Weobley’s danger man and captain from an excellent catch by Rory Noble in Gully. A few overs later Jamie Farrar came in to the attack in for Nick Webb and like Nick only went for 2 runs off his first over.
The next wicket broke a partnership that could have been deadly but luckily a brilliant catch from Joel Stones off Jamie Farrar’s bowling got rid of the danger. Rory Noble then came into bowling and went for very limited runs in his first over. The next over he had involved a ball that took middle stump flying. Tom Ferguson also took a wicket with his first bowl for Tenbury High School, then a few overs later took the wicket of the last batsmen with a catch from midwicket. The final bowling figures were:
Nick Webb 0-14
Alfie Watts 3-29
Jamie Farrar 1-5
Rory Noble 1-7
Tom Ferguson 2-6

Tenbury needed 66 to win at just 4 an over. The openers for Tenbury were Joel Stones and Jamie Farrar. These two stayed in for 9 overs and made a 50 partnership until Jamie Farrar went for a quick single, but was sent back and run out for 6 runs. However when Nick Webb came in at 3 Tenbury only needed 16 runs off 7 overs for a victory. Tenbury made this target easily with 3 overs to spare with a four from Joel stones who finished on 33 not out. Nick Webb finished with no runs and not out. Tenbury have now won two on the bounce and will be looking forward to the next game.
