Tenbury vs York 2016

Well done to the pupils who played against Manor School, York on the weekend.

The boy’s football game was an entertaining fixture. Tenbury took a 3-1 lead with goals from Adam Staples (x2) and Ben Everall . Manor eventually levelled with 8 minutes to go and looked like they’d go on to score the winning goal. However, Tenbury won a corner with minutes on the clock and a clever back heel flick from Ellis Wear who managed to direct the ball into the net. Tenbury won 4-3.

The girls had two matches, both of mixed teams. The one team won 17 and a half to 8, and the other team narrowly missed out by 2 rounders. The girls played amazingly and a special mention to Lola Wear who stepped in last minute and scored 3 rounders.

Last week's results

Well done to the year 11 basketball team who beat Weobley’s year 10/11 team last week (Wednesday 1st Feb)  51-41.

Team:
Max Arwand, Oliver Wallace, James Franklin, Tom Newall, Matthew Jordan, Tyler Evans, Ethan Fish, Jack Jabcynzski, Jordan Morris and Alexi Panagiotakis.

MVP - James Franklin

Also, The year 7 boys' football team won their first game against EMC last week(Tuesday 31st Jan) The result was 2-0.

Thanks to the captain, Adam Lewis, who wrote this match report:

'The game started quite evenly, with THOA and EMC both launching good attacks. THOA lined up defensively, with four at the back whereas EMC went with the usual 3. The turning point of the match came when Mckenzie Bytheway of THOA made a good run down the left wing and got tripped in the penalty box. The penalty was converted well by Jay Griffiths and put THOA 1-0 up.
A few minutes later THOA got a throw-in on the left flank and from it, Adam Lewis lobbed the keeper with a flick on header. For the rest of the first half EMC looked dangerous, close to scoring more than once.

The second half was dominated by THOA, who should've scored at least twice. In the end the game finished as a solid 2-0 for THOA, who will look forward to their next match against Lucton.'

OAT Games - Road to Rio 2016

Last Monday (11th July 2016) was the inaugural OAT School Games – Road to Rio. We took over 90 pupils from year 7-10 to compete in a range of events, including:
futsal, touch rugby, wheelchair basketball, handball, netball and athletics.

After the 2 hour journey to Stoke-on-Trent we arrived and met the 6 other Ormiston academies who also took part in the games. Each academy represented a country and began the games with a dance off; our nation was Spain.

Well done to the girls who took part in the dance-off!

Oli Yarnold, winner of the English sports day oath competition, read out his oath in front of all the 700 competitors and was selected to carry the Olympic torch around the track. His oath read:

Picture: Oli Yarnold

‘On behalf of all the competitors here today, I promise to respect and not discriminate against the other participants in a race. It’s not all about winning it’s the taking part that counts. No matter your ability try your best. We will have sportsmanship and congratulate the winners and losers’

During the day our pupils competed in a number of sporting activities and did exceptionally well in a lot of the events. We were victorious in many events, including: the girl’s athletics and netball, the boy’s handball and even the tug-of-war.

The scores were added up and we missed out on 1st place by 1 point!!

Well done to the event organisers, the Ormiston Academies, the young leaders and the competitors.

A great day had by all! We'll look forward to the next event.

Manor Academy visit THOA

After our York tour back in March it was our turn to host the Manor Academy for the weekend.
The last game ended 3-2 to York so it was our chance to level the result.

The game was fairly even throughout with both teams creating some decent chances but it was York who took the lead when a cross into the box was not dealt with.
After half time THOA began to play some neat football and Adam Staples fired a cross into the box for Harrison Davies to control, setting up Alex Cridland who curled the ball into the top left half corner to level the score.

The game was looking like it was going to finish a draw but in the last few seconds Luke Bufton played a delightful through ball into the path of Matty O’Hagan who slipped it under the oncoming keeper to take the lead and the victory.

Well done to every single player who played in the game. A great game to watch!

Year 8 York tour

The year 8 football team have had a great weekend in York, taking part in a whole range of fun activities. This is the 33rd year of the annual York visit.

We set off on Friday afternoon and after a fairly long journey we arrived safely at the Manor CE Academy in York. The group had a quick 5 a-side game in their sports hall before taking a short trip to the local McDonalds for tea.

Saturday morning, the team were up for breakfast and preparing for the football match at 9.30am.
We had made a promising start to the game, creating many chances, when Adam failed to score from close range and Harrison hit the bar. However, shortly afterwards we took the lead through a wonderfully finished goal by Adam Staples. The lead didn’t last long and they somehow managed to escape the offside to equalise.

The game remained fairly even with both teams striking the woodwork on a number of occasions and the score was 1-1 at half time.

It was Manor who took the lead just after half time, through a defensive error when a corner should have been cleared. However, Tenbury responded in the best way possible and equalised, minutes after, when Alex Cridland finished off some lovely attacking play.

The score looked like it was going to be a draw when Manor again pounced on some loose defending and made it 3-2 in a last few minutes.

Following the close game the boys were showered and ready for their shopping trip to York; this was following a short trip to the bowling and quasar centre. Mr Taylor had a masterclass on the alley racking up 5 strikes and 2 spares, scoring a personal best of 187. Following the bowling it was a quick game of Quasar where it was Mr Morris’s turn to show them how to play and in the process, being awarded top gun for the 3rd year running.

After the activities we all made our way to the park and ride where we jumped on the ‘bendy bus’ and rode into town. The boys all headed straight to the sport shops and the members of staff headed for a cup of coffee and a cake…mmmmm!

Once we’d returned to the school it was time to prepare tea as the young people watched a film on the big screen. They had opted for Bond…James Bond.

Sunday morning was an early start in preparation for the trip home as the bus was loaded and breakfast consumed. This was all before we visited the National Railway Museum where the famous ‘Flying Scotsman’ was on show in all its glory. A whistle stop tour of the museum and we made our way back to Tenbury.

We have to add, the whole year 8 group have made us proud as they thanked us for everything we did throughout the weekend. I’d also like to thank the parents who helped us unload, once we’d returned to school.

We’ll look forward to the rematch later in the year when our hosts become our visitors on the 24th June.
