County Athletics

Well done to Oliver Yarnold and Cameron Wait for being selected to compete in the County Athletics Championships at Nunnery Wood on Tuesday 27^th June.

Oli competed in the long jump and finished in 3^rd place with a jump of 4.67m.

Cameron managed to clear 1.37m in the high jump and finished in joint 3^rd place.

Allan Watkins (javelin), George Read (1500m) and Jacob Rowe (100m) were also selected to compete but were unable to make it due to the German trip and a family holiday.

Tenbury vs York 2016

Well done to the pupils who played against Manor School, York on the weekend.

The boy’s football game was an entertaining fixture. Tenbury took a 3-1 lead with goals from Adam Staples (x2) and Ben Everall . Manor eventually levelled with 8 minutes to go and looked like they’d go on to score the winning goal. However, Tenbury won a corner with minutes on the clock and a clever back heel flick from Ellis Wear who managed to direct the ball into the net. Tenbury won 4-3.

The girls had two matches, both of mixed teams. The one team won 17 and a half to 8, and the other team narrowly missed out by 2 rounders. The girls played amazingly and a special mention to Lola Wear who stepped in last minute and scored 3 rounders.

National Schools' Equestrian Association Show Jumping

Well done to Poppy Spriggs, Matilda Wall and Izzy Griffiths.

Last Saturday (17th June) , Poppy Spriggs made her debut outing for THOA at the NSEA show jumping at Kings, Bromyard.

Poppy had a great day, coming 6th in the 60cm class and qualifying for the winter grass roots championships.

Poppy rode beautifully in the 70cm but had an unlucky fence down, meaning she ended on 4 faults.
On Sunday (18th June), Matilda Wall rode lovely clear rounds in the 75cm class and  she came 5th, qualifying for the Championship plate at Keysoe.

Matilda also went on to come 2nd in the 85cm class and qualified for the Addington championship.

Izzy Griffiths rode a beautiful clear round in the 95cm and just missed the ribbons coming 7th. Unfortunately, a few poles rolled in the 1m 5 class.

They all had a great but busy weekend. Thank you to Claire Wall for her organisation and support for the team.

National Cross Country results.

Well done to Hannah Lancaster who recently competed for Hereford and Worcestershire cross country team, in the National Schools' Cross Country Championships. The race took place on Saturday 18th March 2017

She had a great time and finished 4^th out of the Hereford and Worcester team. She also ran the 3750m race in 14.36 minutes which she was really pleased with.

The weekend before this, Hannah also raced in the UK national cross country championships for Shropshire and finished 1^st out of the Shropshire team despite losing her shoe half way round!

A massive well done for her success this year!!!

Well done to the year 11 basketball team who beat Weobley’s year 10/11 team last week (Wednesday 1st Feb)  51-41.

Also, The year 7 boys' football team won their first game against EMC last week(Tuesday 31st Jan) The result was 2-0.

Thanks to the captain, Adam Lewis, who wrote this match report:

'The game started quite evenly, with THOA and EMC both launching good attacks. THOA lined up defensively, with four at the back whereas EMC went with the usual 3. The turning point of the match came when Mckenzie Bytheway of THOA made a good run down the left wing and got tripped in the penalty box. The penalty was converted well by Jay Griffiths and put THOA 1-0 up.
A few minutes later THOA got a throw-in on the left flank and from it, Adam Lewis lobbed the keeper with a flick on header. For the rest of the first half EMC looked dangerous, close to scoring more than once.

The second half was dominated by THOA, who should've scored at least twice. In the end the game finished as a solid 2-0 for THOA, who will look forward to their next match against Lucton.'

Basketball results

Well done to the following basketball teams for an excellent start to the basketball season:

Year 8 who finished 2^nd and 3^rd in the 5 team tournament held at THOA on 15^th Nov. Teams included QE, EMC and Hereford Academy.

Year 9 who beat QE 22-18 at QE on 23^rd Nov.

OAT Games - Road to Rio 2016

Last Monday (11^th July 2016) was the inaugural OAT School Games – Road to Rio. We took over 90 pupils from year 7-10 to compete in a range of events, including:
futsal, touch rugby, wheelchair basketball, handball, netball and athletics.

After the 2 hour journey to Stoke-on-Trent we arrived and met the 6 other Ormiston academies who also took part in the games. Each academy represented a country and began the games with a dance off; our nation was Spain.

Well done to the girls who took part in the dance-off!

Oli Yarnold, winner of the English sports day oath competition, read out his oath in front of all the 700 competitors and was selected to carry the Olympic torch around the track. His oath read:

‘On behalf of all the competitors here today, I promise to respect and not discriminate against the other participants in a race. It’s not all about winning it’s the taking part that counts. No matter your ability try your best. We will have sportsmanship and congratulate the winners and losers’

During the day our pupils competed in a number of sporting activities and did exceptionally well in a lot of the events. We were victorious in many events, including: the girl’s athletics and netball, the boy’s handball and even the tug-of-war.

The scores were added up and we missed out on 1^st place by 1 point!!

Well done to the event organisers, the Ormiston Academies, the young leaders and the competitors.

A great day had by all! We'll look forward to the next event.

Sportsday 2016

Well done to all the competitors who took part in this year’s sports day.
We had a wide range of activities happening throughout the day including the following: archery, new-age kurling, athletics, tyre flipping, bmx racing and even a tug-of-war.

Triathlon success!

Congratulations to Hannah Lancaster for winning her first ever Triathlon, on Sunday 22^nd May, at Ragley Hall.

Hannah has already been selected to attend the Talent Inspiration Programme for 2016 at Loughborough University in August for her hard work and dedication towards her sport. She was one of two people selected from Worcestershire to attend. The programme will provide her with support and advice for managing her training and school commitments in the future.

Coming first in her first Triathlon is a massive achievement especially against such a strong field of competitors. The event included a 750m swim in open water, 25km cycle and a 5k run to finish.

She commented, “I came first in my category in my first 750m open water triathlon against strong competition. Not only that, when I crossed the finish line I was congratulated and hugged by Jodie Stimpson”

Hannah was also questioned about her first open water swim and said, “I personally really enjoy it and much prefer it to swimming up and down a pool. However, the start is a bit chaotic and you get punched and kicked a few times!”
