After competing in a number of track and field events, the girls finished in 6th place and did extremely well in all their events.

Also, a huge well done to our year 9 leaders who helped run the event and made the whole day possible.

The leaders were divided into two groups.  Three pupils helped with the athletics and did an excellent job.

The rest of the leaders helped with the new age curling. These pupils included: Kaitlin Leadbetter, Ella Snape, Megan Ward, Euan Morris and Chris Hill

Kingspan Funding

Tenbury High Ormiston Academy Sporting Enrichment Activities supported by the Kingspan Insualtion Community Trust

Pupils at Tenbury High Ormiston Academy and the former Tenbury High School have been receiving support from the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust for the last three years.
Since 2006 the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust has been involved in making contributions to the local community on a formal and inclusive footing. The Kingspan Insulation Community Trust has grown out of this desire, and makes it possible for local people to plan and carry out projects that will directly benefit their community and enhance the environment.
As a school we have received funding that meets the trusts objective which aims to ‘’improve the health and fitness of young people through recreation.’
In a joint venture between local high schools and Luctonians RFC, pupils benefitted from 50 hours of professional rugby coaching providing boys and girls with an ‘introduction to ‘contact’ in an imaginative and enthusiastic way as well as supporting the boys and girls to enter competitive rugby in a safe and enjoyable way.
The coaching enabled our pupils to play to success winning the Year 7 Herefordshire Plate competition and win through to the Worcestershire Games Touch Rugby Finals.
Adrian Taylor, Head of PE at Tenbury High commented “The work Trevor undertook with the Year 9 boys has had a significant impact on the team.  With Trevor able to work with the more able team members, the school staff could work more effectively with the less able players, as a result some of these players were selected to play for the School.
Pupils at the school also benefitted from the use of the Astroturf pitch at Leominster following funding received from the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust. The funding enabled the girl’s hockey team to run regular practice sessions on the Astroturf pitch which in turn allowed them the opportunity to work effectively as a team and in a full side situation. The sessions were run as an after school activity for 1 hour per week between September and February last year. There were 12 regular players from Tenbury and to enable more players to participate Lady Hawkins School joined with our girls and they provided a qualified coach to lead the sessions.

John Garbutt Chairman of the Trust added “It has been great to see so many pupils in a number of schools being able to develop and now use advanced skills in the game. Not only has this training helped improve their health and fitness but it’s also given them the opportunity to work together and form strong bonds as teams.

The icing on the cake for the school has been the purchasing of a full set of Indoor Athletics equipment in June 2014. This offers innovative and exciting activities developing speed, agility and co-ordination. The equipment has transformed the winter sports programme for our pupils as participants and leaders and it has also enabled over twenty local primary schools to join us for coaching and competitions. In the event of poor weather in lessons the pupils will always ask us to get out the Indoor Athletics equipment!

“We are extremely grateful to the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust for this funding as it has enabled the academy to develop and range of competitive sports including coaching, competitive games, primary school festivals and sports leadership opportunities. The equipment and coaching provided has certainly raised the profile of the sport throughout the school.”

Sports day 2014

Now the summer holidays are upon us, we can finally look back on the last three weeks of a very busy term.

On Monday 7th July we held our annual sports day which took place throughout the day. The forecast had predicted a bright and clear morning with a chance of rain in the afternoon. All field events were performed in the morning with the track events scheduled for the afternoon; in front of the whole school.

The morning was a huge success, however, the rain clouds had swiftly moved in, during lunchtime. The sudden change in weather didn’t put us off. So many schools would have cancelled but at THS, we have an indoor plan.
Thanks to the Kingspan Trust the school was given a grant, which allowed us to buy a complete set of indoor athletics equipment. This was the perfect chance to put it to good use.

The scores throughout the day were neck and neck and the final scores were so close. The results were:
1st – Red Marauders
2nd- Jade Warriors
3rd- Aztec Golds
4th- Blue Barbarians

A selection of pictures from the day are shown below. However, to view more pictures click on the link at the bottom of this post.

Year 7 Indoor Athletics Competition @ Whitecross

On Tuesday 28th January, two year 7 teams travelled to Whitecross to compete in the Herefordshire indoor athletic games.

The following pupils took part:

Team 1                                         Team 2
Ellie Ferguson                              Zac Francis
Lily Robinson                              Luke Bufton
Izzy Griffiths                                Matty O'Hagan
Shannon Flynn                             Max Gunther
Jodie Hanford                               Aleck Mehra
Molly Cole                                   Toby Whitney
Lucy Watts                                   Dan Coupland
Ella Wright

The two teams competed against 7 other schools with the girls team finishing in 6th place; just 1 point off 5th and 3 points off 4th.
The boys came 5th overall in their competition and were just 1 point from finishing 4th and being selected for the next round off the school games.

A massive well done to all the pupils who competed and represented the school as both teams were only a few points from making it into the next round.

THS hosts a double Indoor Athletics event.

On Monday 27th January the year 11 Btec group and the year 9 sports leaders undertook a mammoth task to provide an indoor athletics competition for year 5/6 children in the morning and year 7 in the afternoon. The School Games Organiser for Malvern attended and has provided some excellent and flattering feedback.
He said, "I wanted to thank you for all of your help on Monday with the Primary and Secondary Sportshall Athletics competitions.
I know how difficult it is to organise the correct amount of leaders for the events and to get the ‘right types’ with such an intricate scoring system and movement between one race to the next.

Regarding the ‘right types’, your leaders were amongst the very best I have had the pleasure to work with.  The fact that they were there from the very start to set up, officiated and scored for 6 individual competitions and still had the enthusiasm to pack away at the end is a huge credit to themselves and Tenbury High! They conducted themselves with complete professionalism.

They have offered an excellent advert of Tenbury High to all the other schools that were taking part and you must be very proud of them all."

We would like to say a massive well done to all the pupils who took part. Below is a few pictures taken from the event.
